Summary of Meeting:
The past 10-15 years have been marked by spectacular progress towards understanding the mechanisms of the immune response. At the same time, there have also been great strides made towards understanding the cell biological principles governing the behavior of all cells, including those of the immune system. Only recently, however, has attention been turned towards a systematic application of emerging principles in cell biology to considerations of the immune response. Such attention has already begun to provide important new concepts in areas as diverse as signal transduction, cell-cell interaction, lymphocyte development, antigen processing, and transcriptional regulation. The major goal of the proposed meeting is to further this emergent interface by bringing together investigators, postdoctoral fellows, and students from the broad range of the immunological community in a form with leading cell biologists representing a number of the most important and relevant areas of cell biology.
